McHenry County Cooperative Dental
Clinic has been awarded a planning grant of $40,700 from the Illinois
Children’s Healthcare Foundation (ICHF). Monies will be used for an oral
health needs assessment to address oral health disparities in low income
children in McHenry County. The Dental Clinic was awarded ICHF grants in
both 2007 ($255,000) and 2009 ($75,000) for operational costs to provide oral
healthcare and education to uninsured children in the County.
Joining the Dental Clinic in the needs
assessment is Community Action Agency-Head Start, Community Health Partnership
of Illinois, the Illinois Migrant Council and the McHenry Community Health
Center. The University of Illinois, School of Medicine at Rockford
(Health Systems Research) has been contracted to conduct the needs assessment
which is slated for completion in September, 2013. Results will be used
to develop an integrated strategy to increase oral health services.
In October 2012, ICHF awarded four
other planning grants throughout the State of Illinois designed to implement a
coordinated planning process for projects designed to increase the availability
of oral health services for children. Since the Foundation’s inception in
2002 through 2011, a total of more than $51.1 million in grants has been
invested in over 285 programs aimed at improving children’s overall health in
Illinois. For more information about ICHF, visit www.ilchf.org.
