A presentation, “El Salvador in the Fight for Sovereignty and Social Justice”, will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00pm at the Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church. The event is sponsored by Friends of Chilama, a McHenry County based member of US-El Salvador Sister Cities.
Speakers are Tula Mejia and Agustin Menjivar who are leaders of the Salvadoran social movement and human rights activists who will focus on the issues of mineral mining, free trade, and increased militarization in El Salvador.
Tula Mejia is vice-president of the Association of Rural Communities for the Development of El Salvador (CRIPDES), the largest grass roots organization in El Salvador. Agustin Menjivar is the president of the Association of Communities for the Development of Chalatenango.
