New Traffic Signals Activated - Walkup Road

The new traffic signals will be activated on June 6, 2013.  Expect minor delays at the intersections when activation occurs.  Police will be on the scene to briefly stop traffic during this time.

The signal at Walkup and IL Rte. 176 is anticipated to be activated at 9:00 am.

The signal at Walkup and Mason Hill Road is anticipated to be activated at 1:00 pm.

Walkup Road Update

South Section:

• Flashing beacons have been installed on Walkup Road North of Veteran Acres Park for the multi-use path crossing. Additional flashing beacons will be installed on Walkup Road just north of Talismon Drive for a pedestrian crossing.  The beacons are not yet active.     They will be activated on June 6^th.
• Final surface course placement is scheduled to begin next week.
• Manhole final adjustments have begun and will be complete next week. Use caution while driving through the area as construction barrels will be placed on some manholes that you will need to avoid while the concrete used for adjustments is curing.
• Sidewalk and curb and gutter final installation along IL Route 176 and Walkup Road will be complete next week.
• Landscaping will be complete next week.
• The temporary traffic signal at IL Route 176 and Walkup Road will be deactivated and the newly installed permanent traffic signal will be activated on June 6th.

North Section:

• The final lift of asphalt has been placed.
• Shoulder stone placement is complete.
• Permanent pavement striping is scheduled to occur next week.
• The new traffic signal installed at Mason Hill Road and Crystal Lake Road is scheduled to be activated on June 6th.

Work is nearing completion, but both sections are still considered construction work zones.  Traffic control may be required at times so please slow down and proceed with caution. HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY and PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY.

Walkup Road Update

North Leg:

The final landscaping is complete and additional erosion control measures are in place for the winter snow.  The temporary striping is almost complete.  The lane lines are in place but some additional markings at turn lanes and shoulders are expected to be complete any day (weather permitting).  Once striping is complete, the work zone speed limit will be removed and final signage will be placed. 

South Leg:

The final landscaping is ongoing.  Some areas where work remains will see temporary stabilization in place for the winter.  The electrical contractor is working on new traffic signal foundations at the intersection of Walkup/IL 176.  Temporary striping is nearing completion

Walkup Road Work Moving Along

South section-
Pavement removal and earth excavation will continue on the north side of IL Route 176 and on Walkup between Park View and Talismon Drive. New curb and gutter will be installed next week in these areas.

Work continues on the new retaining wall along Veteran Acres, and work will start on the retaining wall along the shopping mall located on IL 176.

North section-
Curb and gutter installation will be completed early next week on the east side of Walkup. Stone grading and asphalt widening will follow. Traffic lane shifting may occur at the end of next week – watch for updates.

Please proceed with caution through the work zones – construction personnel and equipment will be present. Expect delays as the work scheduled will impact traffic.

Walkup Avenue Update

South Section: Multiple storm sewer installations are in progress on IL Route 176 and Walkup. Earth excavation and aggregate placement continues on IL Route 176 and Walkup in preparation for curb placement. Wetland cell restoration is complete at Veteran Acres Park.  Frogs and other wildlife seem to be enjoying the restoration!   SEE PHOTOS.

North Section: Storm sewer installation work is continuing. Earth excavation and aggregate placement continues in preparation for curb placement.

South section:
Temporary roadway widening for maintenance of traffic on the north side of IL Rte 176 and the west side of Walkup Rd is complete.

A new lane configuration will be in effect on IL Rte. 176 at Walkup starting Wednesday 7/11. Use Caution.

This week, temporary pavement widening continues on Walkup north of Crystal Ridge. Storm sewer work continues on the south leg of Walkup (the section currently closed to traffic).

North section:
Utility relocation work is complete and grading for pavement widening resumed Monday, July 9th on the north section of the project
