Walkup Avenue Road Work Update

Traffic has been realigned from the Veteran Acres Park entrance to IL Rte. 176.  Daily lane closures will occur on Walkup Road from Talismon Drive to IL Rte. 176 to allow work to resume on this remaining stretch of Walkup to be completed.  

Pavement removal on Walkup Road from Talismon Drive to IL Rte. 176 began April 4 and will be followed by storm sewer installation approximately April 9. 

Remaining work on Walkup Road includes - the storm sewer installation, stone placement, curb and gutter completion, and asphalt installation.  Curb and gutter and sidewalk installation should also begin on IL Rte. 176 starting within 2 weeks.  

Watch for traffic flaggers, avoid using your cell phone and drive safely through the construction zone.

Walkup Avenue Construction Suspended For Winter

Construction activities have been suspended for the winter and will resume once weather conditions permit.  We estimate that start-up will be approximately mid-April. 

When construction resumes the following construction activities will occur:

• Between Crystal Ridge Drive and Talismon Drive - existing pavement will be removed, curb and gutter will be installed, and asphalt base will be placed.
• The Northwest corner of IL Route 176 and Walkup Road - final grading for the multi-use path and for the sidewalk will begin.
• North and South Sections - the final asphalt placement will take place followed by permanent pavement markings.
• IL Route 176 and Walkup Road – traffic signal installation and activation.

We estimate that the project will be completed by the end of June, 2013.

South Leg Walkup Avenue -- Paving

Walkup Avenue Construction Update

North Leg:-- Curb installation started 11/9/2012 and will continue until mid-week.  Aggregate placement should be completed early this week.  After curb placement, fine grading of the stone base will occur in preparation for asphalt placement late week.  Daily lane closures continue.

South Leg : Storm sewer work continues-- Burning Bush heading south, now that pavement removal is complete. Traffic has been shifted onto the new pavement on Walkup Road just North of IL Rte. 176 and a westbound IL 176 to Northbound Walkup right turn lane has been installed. 

Reconstruction of the Walkup/IL Rte 176 intersection has started with pavement removal occurring at the northwest corner of Walkup/IL Rte. 176.   Work continues on the retaining wall on Walkup adjacent to the park.  Please be alert and watch for equipment and workers.

The retaining wall along IL Route 176 is complete and is backfilled to allow remaining storm sewer installation and completion of roadway construction on IL Route 176.
