Crystal Lake Park District’s Acorn Alley at Veteran
Acres Park was selected to receive Outstanding Facility and Parks Award by the
Illinois Park and Recreation Association.
The award recognizes public
agencies for their exceptional and unique achievements in design and
development. Acorn Alley received the highest total points among the
entries in its division and category from across the State of Illinois.
Designed by Hitchcock Design Group and installed by Clauss Brothers, Inc. the
facility opened in 2011. It features a nature themed playground, splash
pad and picnic shelter overlooking the scenic pond at Veteran Acres Park.
The park will be easily accessible by pedestrians and bicyclists from
surrounding neighborhoods. Other improvements planned for next year at
the park include a new parking lot entrance, signage and landscaping.
IPRA indicated in a congratulatory letter to the Crystal Lake Park District,
“It is an honor to announce that your nomination scored the highest total
points among those entries submitted in your division and category from across
the State of Illinois.” A plaque which will be displayed at the Crystal Lake
Park District is forthcoming.
Acorn Alley will also be highlighted on large video screens during the annual
conference Awards Luncheon in January 2013. The Conference, hosting thousands
of attendees from across the State, is presented by the Illinois Association of
Park Districts (IAPD) and IPRA.
