McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) will offer
a cholesterol screening on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 9:30am-11:30am at
the Harvard Diggins Library, 900 E McKinley Street, Harvard.
The screening requires a 12-hour fast and includes total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, triglycerides, blood pressure and cardiovascular education. Call the library’s Circulation Desk for an appointment at 815-943-4671. The cost is $35.00.
High cholesterol usually has no signs or symptoms but can be treated. By quitting smoking, eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight, you can keep blood cholesterols down. For more information on cardiovascular disease and its risk factors, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at http://www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/what_you_can_do.htm.
