If you suddenly discovered you are not registered to vote, there is still time
to handle that important civic duty. The deadline for this necessary action was
October 9.
Katherine C. Schultz, McHenry County Clerk, notes that a state law allows a “Grace
Period” for people to register to vote between October 10 and November 3 for
the upcoming November 6 General Election.
Individuals may register in person during normal office hours at the County
Clerk’s Office, County Administration Building, 667 Ware Road, Room 207,
Woodstock.
However, there is a caveat—people registering to vote at this time must vote in
the County Clerk’s office at the same time... They may not vote in their
designated precinct.
The Clerk’s office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30p.m.
Eligibility requires a person to be a US citizen, 18 years old by Election Day,
and a resident of the precinct for at least 30 days prior to Election Day. Two
(2) forms of ID are necessary, both with the voter’s name and one (1) with
their current address.
For more information about the grace period, contact the County Clerk’s office
at 815-334-4242.
