Choices--Arrest For Prior Crimes Or The River

Sheriff Keith Nygren announced that on September 5, 2012 at 6:41 P.M. members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from Johnsburg Police Department and McHenry Police Department attempted to serve a warrant at 1904 N. Orchard Beach Road, McHenry Illinois


Sheriff’s Deputies received information that a wanted subject, Seth A. Stittgen, was at this residence. Stittgen was wanted on several warrants from Walworth County (WI), Lake County, and Fox Lake, Illinois. Stittgen has an extensive criminal history.


Members of the three departments arrived at the residence and observed  Stittgen running from the backyard of the residence towards the Fox River. He jumped in the river in attempt to get away from police. Deputies observed Stittgen trying to swim across the river.
A nearby citizen assisted law enforcement and offered their boat. This allowed deputies to get Stittgen safely out of the water and take him into custody.
McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to the scene and evaluated Stittgen. who did not seek further medical assistance. He was transported to McHenry County Correctional Facility. Stittgen was additionally charged for Resisting a Peace Officer.
