Do you love dance or music? Join the Retired Adult Program at McHenry County College to learn ethnic dances or relive rock and roll and the Chicago music scene with a presentation from a Chicago area musician.
The Ethnic Dance class allows you to have fun and meet new friends while you learn dances from Israel, Romania, Sweden, Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria and many other countries. The instructor, Nancy Kristan, has danced professionally and has been teaching classes for over 20 years. Those with little or no dance experience are welcome to join.
Partners are not needed. It is suggested that you wear flat, soft-soled shoes, not gym shoes. This class takes place on four consecutive Fridays from 10-11:30 a.m., Sept. 2-23 in the Black Box Theatre, Room D167. Cost is $25 for members. To register, use course ID: NRA S78 001.
In the Chicago Music Scene class, relive the ‘60s and ‘70s with a presentation by Dean Milano, who will combine his singing, accompanied by guitar, with a PowerPoint presentation of photos from his book, “The Chicago Music Scene: The 1960s and 1970s.”
Milano was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and moved to the Chicago area in 1964, just in time for the Beatles arrival and the subsequent formation of garage bands on every block of every city across the country. Milano has played in 75 bands over a 45-year career that encompasses his love of rock and roll, folk music, country and western, bluegrass, jazz, Cajun music, show tunes and many other types of music.
This class takes place from 1:30-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in room B166-167. Cost is $12 for members. To register, use course ID: NRA S81 001.
RAP is a membership-based, non-credit program dedicated to adults ages 50 and older who are active, curious and serious about continually learning. The cost for a one-year membership is $25, and you must be a member to register for most classes.
