Two-Day Ceramics Workshop At MCC

Join the Clayworkers’ Guild of Illinois and the McHenry County College Clay Club for “Biophilia,” a two-day hands-on ceramics workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 10 and 24 at the college, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

This workshop will feature demonstrations, discussion and hands-on involvement with renowned artist Sharon Bladholm. Participants will have the opportunity to build figurative sculptures while using newly-explored handbuilding techniques.

Unique glazing techniques will be introduced for participants to surface decorate completed constructed forms. A special highlight of this workshop will be Bladholm’s perspective on surviving and thriving as a visual artist. Her 30-year journey in art includes ceramics, glass, bronze, printmaking and paper arts.

Bladholm has operated Opal Glass Studio in Chicago since 1983 and has exhibited work in galleries and museums throughout the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, France, Chicago Botanical Garden, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Openlands Lakeshore Preserve.

“This is an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in ceramics. It’s two days, 12 hours, two free lunches and a world of information, ideas and hands-on experiences,” said Tom Vician, ceramics instructor.

Cost is $40 for both days, and lunch is included. To reserve your spot, send an email to Tom Vician at tvician@mchenry.edu. Cash or checks are accepted. Make checks payable to McHenry County College. Send payment to Tom Vician, Ceramics Department, McHenry County College, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake, IL 60012.
