UFO Drop-In Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- Crystal Lake Park District Administration Building

The Crystal Lake Park District is pleased to announce the fall dates for the popular program-UFO (Unfinished Craft Object) Drop-In. This program is for crafters of any kind (ages 18 & up) and features a chance to drop-in and have uninterrupted time to sew, quilt, knit, crochet, cross-stitch, scrapbook with people who share your crafting passion. Come for a few hours or stay the entire day. Bring your project and supplies. Sewing machines are welcome. Fee is $5 per date. No need to register, just pay at the door.

New And Unique MCC Classes For Homemakers

McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department is offering some new and unique autumn classes.  Learn about re-upholstering, create a fall centerpiece or holiday swag. Grab a friend, make it a girl’s day, or just spend time doing something fun and creative.

The following classes are available:

Tips & Techniques of Re-upholstering: Learn the basics of re-upholstering for a fresh updated look of a worn vintage chair. The instructor will discuss style, color and function to give you a new look appropriate for your home. This is a demo class. Students will not re-upholster in this class. Class takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 at Blooms & Rooms, 1245 N. Green Street, McHenry. Cost is $19. Use course code: NCF S18 001 to register.

Fall Centerpiece: Transition your Halloween centerpiece to Thanksgiving for your gathering table. Learn trade secrets of how to transition your table from one holiday to the next.  Holiday Swag: A fun and festive silk pine swag embellished with your favorite colors and trimmings for the season. Learn the art of bow making and tricks of embellishments that create the magic in your swag. Class takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, November 5 at Blooms & Rooms, 1245 N. State Supreme Court Ruling On High School District 155 Bleachers

Regarding Illinois Supreme Court Ruling on Crystal Lake South High School Bleachers

 We are disappointed with today’s Illinois Supreme Court ruling. Community High School District 155 followed the required Illinois School Code process, and obtained all required permits from the Regional County Superintendent in planning and constructing the bleachers at Crystal Lake South High School.

District 155 will fully comply with all Court orders regarding the demolition of the bleachers. At the direction of the Board of Education, in December 2014, the district issued a request for proposals seeking bids for this work demolition. We are committed to working with our residential neighbors, and we will continue to work with the City of Crystal Lake to move forward in a cooperative and respectful manner. We will now work to finalize a demolition process and timeline that will minimize disruption to our students and community.

Fishing Line Major Pollutant In Area Waterways

Did you know that fishing line is a major pollutant in area waterways and can entangle and cause harm to wildlife, boat propellers and even people? Additionally, ingestion is deadly to fish and waterfowl. 

 

The Crystal Lake Park District is installing Monofilament Recycling Receptacles at fishing pier locations through the parks. These receptacles will be installed near the fishing piers at Main Beach, West Beach, Veteran Acres and Woodscreek Park. Installation is expected to be completed by October 1. Fishermen are asked to collect and deposit used fishing line in the receptacles in an effort to keep our waters clean and our wildlife safe. Used fishing line will be collected and used to construct underwater fish spawning structures. 

 

Expanded Program Options For Working Parents

The Crystal Lake Park District is pleased to offer expanded programs options for parents who have to work when school is called off for inclement snow/cold weather. Pre-register for up to 3 days of inclement weather school closure days for your Kindergartner-6^th grader. If a day(s) are not used because the school was not closed due to weather, you will receive a refund. NO REFUNDS given if school is closed and you choose not to send your child.

 

Child may attend any time between 7 am-6:15 pm. This program covers school closing dates, Monday-Friday, November 15, 2015-February 25, 2016. Program takes place at Rotary Building at Veteran Acres Park, 431 N. Walkup, Crystal Lake.

 

Please send a sack breakfast and lunch. We will provide snacks and plenty of activities. Register online for code 2456-0 at www.crystallakeparks.org or in person at the Crystal Lake Park District Administrative Office, One East Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake. Registration deadline is November 15. Registration will not be accepted after that date.

Ladies Night October 7 At Park Place

This FREE event is just for the ladies! Get a group of your best friends and head over to Park Place (406 W. Woodstock St, Crystal Lake) on Wednesday, October 7 from 5-8 pm. The evening will feature drink specials, raffles, purses, jewelry, chocolate and much, much more!  Vendors will have samples, special prize drawings and special offers for Ladies Night attendees.

Acoustic Country Music -- Friday October 2

Park Place, a Crystal Lake Park District banquet and meeting facility is pleased to present Bourbon Country-Country Music at Its Acoustic Best- on Friday, October 2 from 7-10 pm.

 

Event is a Community Harvest Kick Off: Canned Food Donations Welcomed

Bourbon Country is a cover band of all country artists. The majority of their songs are hits that people know or other great songs. Besides their two-person acoustic difference, Bourbon Country emphasizes extensive harmonies, bringing a more intimate approach versus a full band. Come to listen or to dance-everyone is welcome! This is a Crystal Lake Chamber kickoff event for the Community Harvest. Food pantry donations are appreciated. The following items are much needed at local food pantries: chili, peanut butter, pasta, rice, canned meats, canned fruit and canned vegetables.
