In case you see indications that the Town Crier is not functioning, that is somewhat correct.

We were selected to be presented with viruses and the need to add to Outlook Express offerings—which have not worked too well.

Anyhow it now appears that Outlook Express has decided that we don’t need to receive e-mails. So it appears to us that we don’t need Outlook Express. There are other e-mail clients and we are looking into those. We do understand the insanity of some in the Ethernet who have nothing better to do than cause problems for the rest of the world, therefore the need for passwords for everything. And sometimes that does not stop them.

There is much to be said for the old standard U.S. Mail 

If anyone sent an e-mail in the past week -- we have not been able to see it. We are working on an alternative. 

A Little Help For Heart Health

McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) will offer a cholesterol screening at its Woodstock office, 2200 N. Seminary Avenue (Building A) on Wednesday, January 15, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Appointments are required at 815-334-4851. The cost is $35. The screening requires a 12-hour fast and includes total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, triglycerides, blood pressure and cardiovascular education.

Why is cholesterol important? High cholesterol has a lot to do with your chances of getting heart disease. Although it usually has no signs or symptoms, it can be treated. In fact, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes are all major risk factors for heart disease.

Certain lifestyles such as being a smoker, being oversight and lack of exercise can also put people at a higher risk for developing heart disease. Everyone can take steps to lower their risk of heart disease and heart attack by addressing these risk factors.

By quitting smoking, eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight, you can keep blood cholesterols down.

Communication From AT&T

Is there anyone in the McHenry County area who has received a floating notice on your e-mail with information that it is necessary to provide your e-mail address and a password for the pop.att.yahoo.com and smtp.att.yahoo.com servers?

We received them and tried to obtain information of where to enter the password, since we are not terribly knowledgeable regarding such matters.

Did not find the information and the floating ad e-mails that were received we attempted to delete. We were not successful at that. 

Since that time, there have been no more e-mails received, but the floating notice remains. I guess since there is no charge for the e-mail account, this is to be expected. Did find a bit of information that this is an attempt to keep down the large amount of detrimental devices sent through e-mail by many who have nothing to do but detrimental things.

It really would not have hurt AT&T to send an explanation e-mail at the same time the floating notice was sent It they did that, we missed it and we did review all the e-mails that had been sent to our "mailbox".
