Tuesday Morning Meetings

TUESDAY, JULY 19,

8:00 a.m.—Facilities and Planning Committee of McHenry County College Board of Trustees, meeting in the Board Room of the College, 8900 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake.

The Committee is expected to make a selection of an architect for the facility master plan. In connection with this, the committee is to consider a facility condition analysis project prioritization.

Following comments by the committee members, a closed session is scheduled for acceptance of closed session minutes of a June 14 Facilities and Planning Committee meeting.

8:30 a.m. – McHenry County Housing Commission is meeting in the Conference Room of the County Administration Building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

A presentation is to be made by the Fair Housing Staff as well as several committee reports from the Executive, Legislative and Education Committees.

Discussion is slated on a Request of Proposal for Analysis of Impediments. A review and discussion is also planned regarding Fair Housing-Affirmative Marketing Plan as well as discussion  on McHenry County Housing Authority Vouchers.

9:00 a.m. – McHenry County Tuberculosis Care and Treatment Board was scheduled to meet. However, the meeting has been cancelled.

Art Show At MCC Features Area Residents' Work

An exhibit of area artwork from area residents, ages kindergarten through adult, is featured at McHenry County College in the Epping Gallery in Building B, located across from the bookstore now until July-28.

Artwork from children, teens and adults will include drawing, oil painting, mixed media, and many other creative media. The artists are students and instructors at Creative Artistry in Crystal Lake.

“This show is about creative growth and exploration,” said Amber Larsen, MCC adjunct instructor and director of Creative Artistry. “Students ideas, imagination and artistic growth are always a wonder to behold,” she said.

A Heat Advisory Is In Effect For Today & This Evening.

Temperatures/Heat Index will rise into the lower and mid-90’s today, combined with the very moist air over the area, the afternoon heat indices of 100 to 110 degrees are expected.

IMPACTS

The high heat and humidity combined with skies becoming mostly sunny by midday will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses if proper precautions are not taken.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions

A heat advisory means that a period of hot weather is expected with high temperatures and high humidity which will combine to crate a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and checkup on relatives and neighbors.

Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles, under any circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather when the car interior can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes

Meetings of McHenry County Cemetery Board, McHenry County College Committees, School District 47 Board

MONDAY, JULY 18

3:00 p.m. – Valley Hi Cemetery Board

Meeting in Room 210 of McHenry County Administration Building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

The committee will hear a report on the burials since the last meeting of January 25, 2011 along with any problems since that time. Additionally, the board will consider any old business as well as new business before adjourning until the next meeting of January 23, 2012.

6:30 p.m.—McHenry County College Evaluation and Policies Committee, --meeting in the Board Room of McHenry County College, 8900 US Highway 14, Crystal Lake.

In addition to accepting minutes of the May 23 Committee meeting, the committee is to hear a report from the Internal Policy Review Committee as well conduct a discussion on Policy Development Training.

Two Board Policy Revisions are being presented for consideration including one for a Tobacco Free Campus and one for Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.

7:00 p.m.—School District 47 Board of Education

Meeting in the C.O.R.E. Center, 300 Commerce Drive, Crystal Lake.

A number of items listed on the agenda will be handled as consent items and include such as approval of board meeting minutes, viewing of executive session minutes from December 2000 through June 2011; approval to destroy audio Recordings of executive session to January 2010.

Other matters handled by the Board include the approval of monthly payrolls, bills, contracts and disposal of assets; approval of hazardous walking areas, approval of asbestos abatement change order, and approval of flooring bid change order.

According to the agenda the Board is to enter executive session for the purpose of land acquisition.

Eight Years As A Guest of Illinois Department of Corrections

In the late evening hours of February 21, 2007, 35-year old Tania Cederholm of Woodstock was driving her vehicle northbound on Dunham Rd. At the intersection of Route 176 and Dunham, she entered into the intersection, pulling in front of an oncoming vehicle that was traveling eastbound and operated by David LeJune of Rockford. Mr. LeJune’s vehicle thereafter spun into the lane of oncoming westbound traffic and was struck by a third vehicle.

Mr. LeJune later died due to the injuries he sustained. Ms. Cederholm’s blood alcohol level was .246, more than three times the legal limit. She had two prior DUI violations.

This past week Ms. Cederholm was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Correction on one count of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol causing Death. This is a Class 2 Felony.

Ms. Cederholm was taken into custody after the sentencing hearing. She will be required to serve 85% of her prison sentence before being eligible for parole. This case was investigated by Sgt. Karen Groves of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, and was prosecuted by Phil Hiscock and Ryan Blackney of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
