Murder Mystery Needs Solving

Be a detective and solve the crime when the second annual Death at the Dole presents “Murder at the Masquerade” Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre with two separate showings: 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 and at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake, 401 Country Club Road in Crystal Lake.

Death at the Dole is a joint venture between the McHenry County College’s (MCC) award-winning Forensics Program and the Lakeside Legacy Foundation with proceeds benefitting both organizations. A portion of each ticket supports the MCC Forensics Program and creates abundance for the arts, community programs, events and historic preservation of the historic Dole Mansion.

Combine dining with disguises, murder with the mansion as backdrop, and jostling on the dance floor during this action-packed entertainment package.

Guests will dine on a meal catered by 1776 restaurant with desserts by MCC’s Culinary Management program while a gang of jewel thieves attempt to sell their latest haul to a very important buyer in the Crystal Lake community. Murder at the Masquerade is an interactive murder mystery with twists, revelations, and many laughs. Witness the mayhem when a simple swap goes awry, get the scoop on who’s who in the gang from a local reporter who is hot on their trail, and examine clues and crime scenes throughout the mansion to try and solve the mystery.

Actors include MCC students and alumni, directed by MCC speech instructor and Forensics program director Bonnie Gabel. The script was written by cast member Lauryn Lugo, MCC alumna, along with script contributions by Gwendolyn A. Koehler, MCC executive dean of Continuing and Professional Education.

Guests may dance their cares away to live music by Airmail Special Swing Band featuring Lakeside Legacy Foundation resident partner musician Roger Reupert on Saturday night. Sunday’s matinee features the MCC Jazz Ensemble and featured vocalists from the cast.

Guests are requested to wear black and white attire. Masks and clues will be sold as a part of the mystery. Guests are encouraged to wear their purchased ‘clue’ that might also help them solve the mystery!

Tickets for Saturday night are $75 or $150 per couple. A reserved table of eight is $600 or a premium table closest to the actors is $800.
