Big Night For Local Teen Bands

The best teen bands in the Crystal Lake area will take the stage at the Crystal Lake Main Beach band shell on Friday, June 7 to compete in the Crystal Lake Park District Battle of the Bands contest. Spectators of all ages are invited from 3-9 pm to offer their support, cheer on their favorite band and enjoy this beautiful lakeside concert venue. Admission for spectators is $5.
Connie Cooke, Battle of the Bands Event Coordinator anticipates that 5-7 local teen bands will be competing for the winner title and the opportunity to compete in the Regional Battle of the Bands Qualifier (location, time and date to be determined).
The winner of the Regional competition will then continue on to the State Final Battle of the Bands, to be held at the Illinois State Fair in August 2013. In addition, each band member will receive a Battle of the Bands T-Shirt, a goody bag with items provided our event sponsors, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners receive a cash prize.
All genres of music are typically represented by the bands that enter to compete. Last year’s winner was The Skelters, a funk-rock band, influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jimi Hendrix.
The 2013 Battle of the Bands is judged by 3-5 volunteers with a music background or music interest.  In the past we have had representatives from a recording studio, music stores and artists in the music industry. The bands are judged in 5 categories on a scale of 1-10. Each band performs for approximately 30 minutes.
