Retired Adult Program Features Italian Films and Directors

Adults 50 and over who enjoy movies and are curious about Italian films and the directors of those films may join the Retired Adult Program at McHenry County College this fall for its Italian Film Director lecture series.

RAP is a membership-based, non-credit program dedicated to adults ages 50 and older who are active, curious and serious about continually learning.  The cost for a one-year membership is $25, and you must be a member to register for most classes.

The Italian Film Directors series will feature lectures on great film directors from post-war Italy. The following Italian film director lectures are scheduled:

The September lecture series will focus on Vittorio De Sica and Roberto Rossellini. This lecture takes place from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 in room B168-169.  Cost is $18. Use course ID: NRA S64 001 when registering. Vittorio De Sica directed:  “Shoeshine,” “The Bicycle Thief,” “Umberto D.,” and “The Garden of the Finzi-Contini.” Roberto Rossellini directed: “Rome:  Open City,” “Flowers of St. Francis,” and “Voyage to Italy.”

The October lecture will feature Luchino Visconti and Federico Fellini from
1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 in room B168-169.  Cost is $18. Use course ID: NRA S65 001 when registering. Luchino Visconti directed: “The Leopard,”  “Rocco and his Brothers,” and “Senso.” Federico Fellini directed:  “I Vitelloni,”  “Ginger and Fred,” “La Dolce Vita,” “8-1/2,” and “Satyricon.”

The November lecture highlights Francesco Rosi and Michelangelo Antonioni from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 in room B168-169. Cost is $18. Use course ID: NRA S66 001. Francesco Rosi directed:  “Christ Stopped at Eboli,”  “Three Brothers,” “The Truce,” and “Hands Across the City.” Michelangelo Antonioni directed: “The Passenger,”  “Blow-Up,” “L'Avventura,” “Story of a Love Affair,” and “Zabriskie Point.”
