Pedestrian Crossing Beacon Activated On Pingree Road For Metra Passengers

In an effort to improve pedestrian safety, a pedestrian crossing beacon has been installed on Pingree Road at the intersection of Grandview Drive. The pedestrian beacon was activated on May 29, 2014.

The pedestrian beacon will help people crossing Pingree Road to get to the Metra Station and other destinations. The City has received numerous requests from residents for an improved pedestrian crossing in this area
.
The beacon is activated by a push button. When a pedestrian activates the beacon, lights begin to flash and the pedestrian can proceed across the road. Drivers are reminded to stop for pedestrians whenever they see the flashing lights of these beacons.

The City has installed these types of pedestrian beacons, called a rectangular rapid flashing beacon or RRFB, in four other locations throughout the City due to the high pedestrian volumes.
  • On Main Street in the Three Oaks Recreation Are entrance
  • On Crystal Lake Avenue near Hannah Beasley Middle School
  • On Pingree Road at the intersection of Three Oaks Road
  • On McHenry Avenue near Husmann Elementary School
