McHenry County Residents Participate In DC Environmental Rally

A large crowd is expected to visit the National Mall in Washington, DC for a rally at noon on February 17. This event is sponsored by the Sierra Club.350.org, and the Hip-Hop Caucus. The idea behind the event is to tell President Obama to move forward on climate and reject the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. This is expected to be the largest climate rally in U.S. history.
Climate scientists note that the hottest year on record – 2012 – has left its disastrous mark, crippling drought, devastating wildfires, and Hurricane Sandy. All these have brought the need for prompt action home to the American people. An important step in putting the United States on the path to addressing the climate crisis is for President Obama to reject the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.
The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County plan to be a part of the group. The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County is a 501©(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the environment.
The group provides community residents with educational programs and volunteer action on pollution prevention, sustainable land use and energy and natural resource conservation. Donations are encouraged and are tax-deductible as charitable contributions.  For more information, visit www.mcdef.org or call 815-338-0393.
