MCC Student Wins Bronze Medal In Science Poster Competition

McHenry County College student, Maria Nellessen of Hebron, was awarded a bronze medal at the first Skyway Collegiate Conference STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) poster competition which was held at Waubonsee Community College. Maria’s poster was titled “The Effect of Osmotic Upshock on UV Radiation Resistance in Escherichia Coli” and was awarded a third place bronze medal out of more than 30 submitted posters in the general science category.

Maria’s faculty advisor at MCC, Marla Garrison, comments, “Maria is a born researcher. She uses critical thinking and a skillful hand to conduct carefully controlled experiments. Her aptitude in science will take her as far as she wants to go."
