Lakewood Village boundaries grew Tuesday night by over 500 acres of land and some structures to the north and west of the current boundaries. The area is basically along Route 176, Route 47 and Pleasant Valley Road all mostly westward of the present Lakewood boundary.
None of the current property uses are being changed and the Lakewood zoning is accommodating residential as well as business uses which are currently in place under McHenry County Zoning.
A few questions were raised regarding such as existing swimming pools which are not allowed under Lakewood zoning. However, as it was explained to the property owners, these are being accepted as a non-conforming use as are any sheds which presently exist.
The annexation of this area has been underway for many months, with the property owners having been contacted by Village Officials for explanation of what was taking place.
Included in the area annexed is the acreage on the southeast side of Routes 47 and 176 which is planned for a multisport facility.
