McHenry County Assistant Engineer Honored


Assistant County Engineer Jeff Young (center) was recently awarded the 2011 Past Presidents Award by the Illinois Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.  The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international professional organization with over 17,000 members who are responsible for meeting safety and efficiency needs for surface transportation.  Illinois is part of the Midwestern District, which includes 11 states in the central US.  Each District is comprised of Sections to better serve its members with the Illinois Section having over 400 members.  The Past President’s Award is the most prestigious award presented by the Illinois Section of ITE

Mr. Young has been an active member of ITE at all levels: the Illinois Section, the Midwestern District and International.  Through his involvement with ITE, he has been a leader and mentor for many young engineers, helping to shape future leaders in the organization and the transportation profession.

About Jeff Young, P.E.
Jeff Young is presently the Assistant County Engineer for the McHenry County Division of Transportation (MCDOT). Working for McHenry County since 2003, Jeff manages the planning, design, and construction sections of the MCDOT. Prior to working for McHenry County, he was employed in the private sector with civil/transportation engineering firms in the Chicago region working on various transportation engineering and planning projects.

He has been a member of ITE since 1994 and is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.

With the Illinois Section, Jeff worked on several committees and then served on the Board for 7 years holding the position of Section President in 2004. With the Midwestern District, Jeff continued his involvement with ITE serving on the District Board for 4 years culminating as the District President in 2008.   At the International level, he is presently serving on the Executive Committee for the Public Agency Council as Volunteer Coordinator.
